By: Susan Sherren for Couture Trips Published: 7/4/21 9:28 CST If you're looking for more of a chilled-out back to nature beach vibe but want to explore the Balearic Islands, then skip the party atmosphere of Ibiza. Consider heading over to Mallorca, the more laid-back sister island. The island is full of quaint inlets brimming with sandy shores and turquoise waters. If you're considering writing a novel or want to read a great book-let your mind sink into the nature-filled peaceful atmosphere found at these natural beaches. May is a great time to explore these coves, inlets and beaches, plus you find fewer crowds than the summer season starting in June. We have selected our top three picks for the best natural beaches on the island of Mallorca. Cala Formentor Located in the northeastern part of the Mallorca peninsula, this beach 1 kilometre long has soft, fine sand and is surrounded by woods and the Tramontana Mountains. It lies in the Bay of Pollença on the south side of the peninsula of Formentor. There are incredible vistas for snapping some Instagram worthy photos. You'll enjoy clear shallow waters, a perfect spot for children. Also, there is a lifeguard on duty, but beware you'll want to arrive early if your vacation is in July and August; the beach can become quite crowded. Consider this beach one of the best natural beaches on the island. Cala Torta This little gem is the locals secret located on the northeastern side of the island. There are no hotels nearby, and the road to access the beach can be a bit dicey. However, you will be richly rewarded with stunning turquoise blue waters and powdery white sand. Just a word of warning- because of the location, there can be northerly winds that create undertows and waves. Also, the water can suddenly become deep, so watch your little ones if you choose to frolic at this location. There are few services and one restaurant/beach bar. Snorkelling is possible here among the rocky inlets so bring your gear. ![]() Calo des Mora The beach, positioned in the southeast corner of the island, this unique beach is surrounded by rocky cliffs deep in a bay. A top spot for locals, but the word has now spread about this gorgeous natural beach. You won't find any high rises or partying going on here. The clear, calm waters are perfect for children, but you will want to arrive early in the day to secure a spot on the small sandy shore. You will be climbing down some steep stairs to access to the beach, so wear some suitable footwear. There are no services here, so pack accordingly.
